David  Leff, retired deputy commissioner at the Connecticut DEP, and current columnist for the Hartford Courant, spent the summer of 2004 retracing Henry David Thoreau’s excursions on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers. In Deep Travel, he offers his keen, highly informed observations and meditations on these historic waters and provides us with a way to enrich  our own journeys. Leff is also the author of The Last Undiscovered Place and The Price of Water. Co-sponsored with the Connecticut Museum of Natural History.
